Using a courier as your shop's delivery arm
How small shops, clinics and bakeries in Kottayam use an on-demand courier instead of employing delivery staff — what it costs, how it is paid for, and where it works badly.
“I run a shop. Can I use this instead of hiring a delivery boy?”
The arithmetic that usually decides it
A delivery employee is a fixed cost that has to be paid on a quiet Tuesday as well as a busy Saturday, plus a two-wheeler, fuel and the time spent managing them. An on-demand runner is a variable cost with nothing to pay when nothing is going out.
Below roughly a handful of deliveries a day, variable almost always wins — each trip is a known fare, starting around ₹36 on a short run, and there is no idle time to fund. Above that, and especially with a fixed daily route, your own rider starts to make sense.
What it is good at
Overflow. A shop with one rider and six orders can push the extra two out without keeping a customer waiting.
Occasional but urgent. Clinics sending samples to a lab, an advocate's office getting a filing across town before a cut-off, a bakery delivering a cake at a set hour.
Trips your staff should not be making. A rider away from the counter for forty minutes is a counter nobody is serving.
What it is bad at
Fixed daily rounds. If the same twelve addresses are served every morning, a scheduled route with your own rider will beat per-trip pricing.
Anything needing a doorstep conversation — fittings, returns to inspect, a sale to complete at the door. A runner delivers; they do not represent your shop.
Paying for it from a Deelo account
Shops already using the Deelo merchant console can book a parcel from there and have the fare taken from the shop's Deelo wallet rather than paying by card or cash each time. The booking arrives with the shop already identified, so there is no per-delivery payment step at all.
That also means a shift's couriers appear as ordinary wallet entries alongside everything else the shop settles, rather than as a pile of separate receipts to reconcile.
Questions
Is there a contract or a monthly minimum?
No. Bookings are per delivery, and a shop that sends nothing in a month is charged nothing.
Can my customer track their own delivery?
Yes. Every booking produces a public tracking link you can forward, which shows the runner on a map without the customer needing an account.
